1. Earliest news about a fellow Centeno can be found on Fray Luis Ariz's "Historia de las Grandezas de la Ciudad de Avila". In this book there's a reference to this noble man Alfonso Centeno, who in 1097 was involved in some riots between the two factions that dominated the city.
2. One other news refers to Pedro Garcia Centeno, who was a Portuguese knight, who setled in the village of Arenas de San Pedro, in the province of Avila, with whom some authors start the information about the family in Spain.
3. Later, according to an 18th Century Portuguese manuscript, there is news about the coming to Portugal of D. Lopo Centeno, from Avila, who founded a chapel to St. James and St. Peter in St. Francis Church, in Lisbon.
